Gabby George joins Brighton from Manchester United

George, who joined United in 2023 and made more than 50 appearances, had a year left on her contract after the club activated an option clause in January.

It is understood she was seeking regular game time, and BBC Sport reported this week that Brighton would pay a six-figure fee. The versatile defender was part of the United side that won the Women’s FA Cup in 2024, and previously played more than 100 games for Everton after graduating from their academy. She has three caps for England.

“We are delighted to welcome Gabby to the club,” said Vidosic. “Her versatility in defence gives us fantastic options and her technical quality on the ball will help elevate how we want to play. Adding a player of Gabby’s calibre and character is a massive step forward for us.”

Brighton, who finished seventh last season, have already added Switzerland captain Lia Walti and midfielder Emilie Joramo this summer. They open the campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday 6 September. United, meanwhile, are searching for a new manager after Marc Skinner left his role by mutual consent.
