He left the European parliament stunned
A Danish MEP has told Donald Trump to “f*ck off” and that Greenland is not for sale.
Anders Vistisen, member of the European Parliament (MEP) had some choice words for the new president, giving a whole new meaning to sworn as president.
For weeks now, Trump has been suggesting that the United States want to take over the Danish autonomous territory of Greenland because of its strategically advantageous position on the world stage.
The 47th US president has alluded multiple times in recent weeks to how this could be done, and suggested that if they could not buy the land, they might have to take it forcefully.
When asked if he would rule out using military or economic force he replied: “I can’t assure you on either of those two.”
Meanwhile, even France and Germany have issued warnings to the US president about his interest in Greenland.
Now, Trump has received his most blatant warning yet, from a member of European Parliament, Anders Vistisen, who did not pull any punches.
He said: “Dear President Trump, listen very carefully.
“Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It’s an integrated part of our country. It is not for sale.
“Let me put it in words you might understand, Mr Trump. F**k off.”
Despite many finding this direct message rather humorous, the European Parliament were less entertained, with an official taking issue over his coarse language.
They said: “If the translation was correct, the term you used is not allowed in this house and there will be consequences to the message you have used.
“It is not okay in this house of democracy, thank you. Regardless of what we think of Mr Trump, use of such language.”
He also posted a video of the speech with the caption: “Greenland is not for sale. Greenland has been part of Denmark for 800 years, more then double of the time the US has existed.
“Any true patriot should understand that this is an unacceptable attack on national sovereignty!”
Vistien is the Chief Whip of the Danish People’s Party, which forms part of the far-right European Parliament faction Patriots for Europe.
However, ironically enough, when it comes to Greenland, America already has a military presence and bases in the region, prompted many to question what Trump wants with the area of if he even knows this.
