Thousands sign petition to Netflix to bring back Mindhunter series

Mindhunter director calls on fans to 'make noise' about its return

Is Mindhunter one of Netflix’s best of all time?

It feels like it’s been forever since Mindhunter graced our screens with the weird and disturbing world of the FBI’s psychological profilers.

Despite that, fans are refusing to give up on the chance the cult show will return for a third series.

A petition, which began in February of this year, is attempting to prove to Netflix how much of an appetite is there for another instalment.

And it’s proving fairly popular, with nearly 52,000 people signing their names to the cause.

The show was incredibly well reviewed upon the release of its first season in 2017, and many fans and critics believed the second series was even better.

With incredible performances from its central cast of FBI profilers, propped up by the downright disturbing characterisations of some of America’s most notorious serial killers – the series became regarded as one of Netflix’s best.

So when it was announced that the project would not be moving forward and David Fincher – the creator behind the series – would be focusing on other work, fans were devastated.

Speaking back in February about the decision, Fincher said Netflix had said the audience for the show was too small to justify the high production costs.

He said: “I’m very proud of the first two seasons. But it’s a particularly expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we haven’t attracted a large enough audience to justify such an investment.

I don’t blame them, they took risks to launch the series.”

But this petition could prove how the audience for Mindhunter has grown in size and in fervor.

The petition reads: “Please believe, even if the numbers didn’t add up in season two as they did for the first season, we are still out here waiting faithfully and clamouring for more. Please don’t let such a brilliant series die because we know, without doubt, this show/series has the potential to be Netflix’s most successful and popular ever.”

Only time will tell whether the suits over at Netflix heed the call for a new series, but until then, we will have to make do with a rewatch of the first two seasons.
