Seventy firefighters and ten fire engines are tackling a blaze at a block of flats in London.

The fire broke out earlier this afternoon in Catford in south east London.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to Rosenthal Road in Catford at about 12:51 BST on Wednesday.

After receiving 50 calls concerning a fire at the block of flats the LFB put out a post on X asking the public to “avoid the area whilst firefighters work to extinguish the fire.”

The LFB have said that two flats on the ninth and tenth floors were “currently alight.”

The blaze comes as the final report into the inquiry of the Grenfell Tower fire was released to the public on the same day.

In a hearing in parliament today, the findings of the reports were reviewed and MPs made apologies to the victims.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer began a statement by speaking directly to the bereaved families, survivors and the wider Grenfell community.

He made note that the inquiry found all 72 deaths were avoidable and added that they were let down in every way in regards to safety.

Starmer said: “Seven years still waiting for the justice you deserve.

“I want to say very clearly from the whole country, you have been let down so badly, before, during and in the aftermath of this tragedy.”

He went on to apologises on behalf of the British state, saying “it should never have happened”.
