The new Netflix film telling the story of Prince Andrew's infamous Newsnight interview has finally arrived, but there's one scene that has left viewers disgusted.
Prince Andrew has faced scrutiny for his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and the accusations that surround this part of his life. He was accused of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre, and settled her case against him for more than £12m back in 2022.
Back in 2019, the 64-year-old sat down with Newsnight to address his relationship with Epstein, who died in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center a few months prior to the interview.
The interview received a lot of attention, but was met with negative reactions from both the public and the media. Although the original interview is no longer available to watch on BBC iPlayer, it is available on BBC News’ YouTube channel.
Netflix’s adaptation of the story surrounding the interview has been one of the service’s most anticipated films of the year, and now it is finally here.
“Inspired by real events, this fictional dramatisation gives an insider account of how the women of Newsnight secured Prince Andrew’s infamous interview,” the official synopsis reads.
Starring Rufus Sewell as Andrew and Gillian Anderson as Maitlis, the film dropped earlier this month and immediately made a splash.
However, one scene in particular left viewers reeling.
Sewell, playing Andrew, settles down to watch the interview air. However, rather than sticking around to watch it, the interviewee decides to run a bath instead.
However, upon his exit, the camera catches his bare backside.
"Rufus Sewell is very good; the writing is very self-regarding; showing Prince Andrew‘s bum is very unnecessary," journalist Rob Lownie wrote on Twitter.
Many other viewers echoed this sentiment.
One person wrote: "Did we really need to see Prince Andrew’s bare arse?"
"The only thing I didn't like about #ScoopNetflix is having to view what is meant to be Prince Andrew's arse," another put.
Thankfully, Sewell has revealed that the bum in question wasn't his own. He wore a prosthetic bum to get the full effect.
