Since the release of Baby Reindeer, stalking has become a huge topic of conversation and, if you’re looking, a movie exploring similar themes is available on Prime Video.

The Gift, which came out in 2015, stars Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall as Simon and Robyn Callem, a couple intimidated by a figure from Simon’s past, played by Joel Edgerton.

Edgerton, who has starred in the likes of The Stranger, Master Gardener and The Boys in the Boat, also makes his directorial debut here.

Made on a shoestring budget of just $5 million, The Gift was a big box office success, grossing $60 million worldwide.

Baby Reindeer fans urged to watch thriller with one of the most shocking twists of the decade

Nearly ten years after its release, The Gift also maintains an impressive 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has been praised for its chilling performance from Edgerton as well as it’s incredibly shocking twist ending.

Produced by horror masters Blumhouse, there is a very menacing edge to the whole affair, with some big scares dotted here and there.

Check out some of the glowing reviews for The Gift below.

Vulture – “The Gift starts out like so many other thrillers before it – with an attractive, well-to-do couple purchasing a big new house – and then beats its own, uniquely tense and twisted path from there.”

Chicago Sun-Times – “Just when we think we know where The Gift is going, we’re surprised. And then surprised again.”

New York Post – “A dark and ultimately quite nasty psychological thriller from actor/writer/debut director Joel Edgerton, who manages to yank the carpet out from under his audience a couple of times.”

The Wrap – “Nothing here feels cheap or hasty, which is why the horror, when it comes, is all the more chilling and grim. Slick, sharp and terrifying, “The Gift” is a truly brilliant thriller – and, one hopes, the first of many features from Edgerton to come.”

Some viewers are also just discovering the show for the first time, with one saying on Twitter/X: “Just watched The Gift starring Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton. SAVAGE karma/revenge movie. Hitchcock level suspense.”

The Gift leaves Prime Video in a few days, but will still be available to rent or buy there, as well as on Apple TV and Google Play.

If you’re in the UK, you can also check out The Gift on BBC iPlayer.
