The Watford midfielder won’t be driving for three months

Premier League footballer Etienne Capoue was banned from driving for three months after he was caught speeding at 116mph.

The Watford midfielder’s excuse was that he was “running late for a job” on the M25 in December last year.

30-year-old Capoue pled guilty in March after police followed his black Mercedes G63 for more than two miles and clocked him travelling at a top speed of 116mph on the 70mph speed limit motorway.

Stevenage Magistrate’s Court heard that Capoue previously received a 28-day driving ban and £1,000 fine for going 53mph in a 30mph zone in February 2017.

Capoue did not attend court, citing an “important” training session and submitting a letter of apology via his defence. “He had tried to negotiate his way out of going to that training but it was not possible,” Kwaku Awuku-Asabre told magistrates.
