Bartender shuts down customer who asked for ‘no ice’ to get more alcohol in drink

‘That doesn’t mean you’re going to get more alcohol’

A bartender has shutdown a customer who thought they’d discovered a hack to get more alcohol, and in doing so divided opinion in what has turned into an icy debate.

The customer thought they could get more booze for their bucks by asking for no ice.

In a video posted to TikTok, user Jemima June, recorded herself working and showed what happened when a customer asked for, “Tequila cranberry, no ice.”

In the post that’s been viewed more than 10m times, she can be seen pouring the beverage as the customer makes clear they don’t want ice in their drink.

Jemima pauses for a moment before explaining to the customer that no ice doesn’t mean more drink.

“Just because you say ‘no ice’,” she said, “that doesn’t mean you’re going to get more alcohol.”

Jemima then explained the only guaranteed way that a customer can be sure that they’re getting more than a single measure in their drink.

“Double,” she said.

“That means you’re going to get more alcohol.”

While Jemima was simply pointing out the obvious, her cold reaction to the request has divided opinion on TikTok.

Mainly because the alcohol is measured out, so the amount of ice in a drink isn’t really a factor, it only really impact how much mixer is added.

Reacting to the video, that has been watched 7.3m times, one user wrote: “My coworker said he asked for less ice, knowing he wasn’t going to get more alcohol, and the bartender was so rude.

“He just wanted no ice.”

Another commenter wrote: “I just hate super cold drinks. What if his throat hurts and that’s why he’s asking for no ice [sic].”

Other commenters pointed out that those complaining would “never survive as a bartender”.
