Chris Martin says Coldplay will stop making music in 2025

It's time to bid farewell to the most divisive band of a generation

Chris Martin has announced that Coldplay's last album will be released in 2025. The band may continue to collaborate with other artists, but this will be their last stand-alone Coldplay album, the 46-year-old said on Thursday. “Well I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour,” Martin said in a recording shared by Zoe Ball on her Radio 2 Breakfast show. Speaking to NME in October, Martin said the band would make another three records before they call it quits. “We’re going to make 12 albums," he said. "Because it’s a lot to pour everything into making them. I love it and it’s amazing, but it’s very intense too." Coldplay may plan to keep touring, but they're hoping to do so in a sustainable way. In a bid to reduce their carbon footprint, the group powered a recent gig by asking the audience to clap and jump up and down. You know when the frontman says, 'We need you to jump up and down'? When I say that, I literally really need you to jump up and down. Because if you don't, then the lights go out," Martin earlier explained to the BBC. Despite the eco-initiative, the band has continued to rely on private jets. "We're trying our best, and we haven't got it perfect. Absolutely. We always have backlash for everything," Martin has said.
