You could soon get a McDonald’s ordered on your mobile phone

Ben Kenyon

McDonald’s aren’t afraid of trying new things.

Take the sweet potato fries covered in chocolate for instance – this lot will literally give anything a spin.

While Burger King are rolling out home deliveries in the UK, McDonald’s have something equally interesting brewing across The Pond.

They’re currently testing a new ordering system which will enable you to buy your Big Macs through their mobile app.

Since the app was created, there have been 7.5m downloads, according to The Street.

Plans are to test the new mobile ordering system in selected US cities, following the success of similar functions with Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts apps.

But it looks like they’re going to be testing this tech in other countries later this years, with the cheif digital officer at McDonald’s Atif Rafiq saying: “We will be piloting ordering capabilities through mobile in some geographies outside the United States this year.

“It’s important for us to work out the kinks so we can scale it up as soon as possible.”

McDonald’s fans will be able to order with a few clicks and then pick and or drive-thru and collect when it’s ready. Magic.

They’re also working on an in-app loyalty card system where you can bag a free McCafe beverage every sixth order.

But this online order development could really take the app, and your McDonald’s experience, to a new level.

It can’t be long before we see something similar on these shores.
