‘Religious zealots’ back off from house after seeing that doormat says ‘gayest place in town’

Religious zealots back off from house after seeing rainbow doormat

For some reason, the doormat put them off…

A couple’s doormat had a much greater benefit than simply cleaning people’s shoes, as it managed to turn away a pair of “religious zealots” from their house.

Jamie Foust and her wife had purchased the rainbow-patterned doormat earlier this year in celebration of pride month, which takes place in June in the US.

The mostly-brown doormat is bordered by multicolour squares and has the words ‘Gayest place in town’ written on it in large bubble letters.

Jamie described it as a “great investment,” but some visitors to the couple’s house clearly weren’t so keen.

A camera outside her house caught the moment when two men dressed in shirts and ties walked up to the house, before looking at the doormat for a few seconds.

The men were both wearing name tags and carrying books, causing Jamie to believe that they were members of a religious organisation who were coming to the door to speak about their faith.

But they abandoned their plan shortly after seeing the doormat, perhaps because of their religious view that same-sex relationships should not be allowed.

@jamie.foust94My wife and I recently got a new door mat. It was a great investment. It says “gayest place in town” and has the added benefit of keeping religious zealots from knocking on our door to tell us about their god. ?

Alongside the footage, Jamie wrote: “My wife and I recently got a new door mat. It was a great investment. It says “gayest place in town” and has the added benefit of keeping religious zealots from knocking on our door to tell us about their god.”

Many voiced their amusement in the comments, praising the doormat for the job it had done.

One person commented: “PLEASE the way they just walk away, they’re afraid of the rainbow.”

Another TikToker wrote: “This wins the internet today!!”

Many more had one question though: where could they purchase the doormat for themselves?

In a follow up video, Jamie shared that she and her wife had picked up the mat from Target during pride month.
