Sorry?

Fizzy drinks are one of the pillars of our society. More often than not, you'll see somebody drinking a can of Sprite, Fanta and more.

But have you ever wondered how they got their name?

There's a lot of mystery around how brands decided the name of their product and the story behind Pepsi's is quite surprising.

Founded in 1893 by inventor and pharmacist Caleb Davis Bradham, Pepsi-Cola was originally sold as ‘Brad’s Drink’ from his shop.

Not satisfied with the name though, Bradham wanted to label Pepsi as a health drink with "health benefits".

Not sure about you, but health and Pepsi aren't what I'd associate each other with but there was a reason behind his insistence.

According to the LA Times, Pepsi is apparently named after the term for indigestion, dyspepsia along with the cola flavouring.

The revelation makes sense given that Bradham wanted to promote the drink as aiding indigestion but people were left baffled by the origin of the name.

"I was today years old when I learned that," wrote one user.

"I had no idea!" said a second.

So the next time you're in a shop and you're contemplating buying a can of Pepsi, remember this story and grab that drink.
