Nestle fans heartbroken as brand confirm they have axed fan favourite chocolate

The treat has been discontinued

Fans of Smarties Buttons say they have been searching for the sweet treat everywhere and have now had it confirmed that the product has been discontinued.

The treat was a milk chocolate button with crunchy smartie pieces within, but the company has said it wants to focus on its core Smarties products.

One fan took to social media to ask where they could find the product after hunting high and low.

He said: “Have the smarties buttons been discontinued? I love them but can never find them anymore and when I look at the links to purchase them every outlet is showing out of stock. Any idea where I can get some from?”

Nestle confirmed this week that the product had been discontinued, saying: “We are waving goodbye to Smarties Buttons which we know has been a beloved product and we appreciate the support it has received.

“However, we have made the decision to discontinue it as we focus on our main Smarties products.

“Smarties fans may want to keep an eye out for the new Smarties Elf Treats giant tube, which is hitting stores now in time for Christmas.”

The product was first unveiled in 2020 as a ‘reimagined’ treat for chocolate lovers and was an instant hit with customers.

One Tesco customer raved: “Opened up the pack and ended up eating them all on one go. Couldn't stop!!”

Another said: “A nice way to expand on the Smarties brand for a more chocolatey smarties treat!”

The treats offered ‘all the fun, colour and crunch of Smarties, enveloped in a smooth milk, white or orange-flavoured chocolate button’. Later a gold version was also introduced but fans can no longer get their hands on the tasty snack.

Smarties were originally released in 1882 under the name Chocolate Beans, and were renamed Smarties Chocolate Beans in 1938.

They went out of production during the war but resumed in January 1946.
