UK’s favourite supermarket has been revealed

Even though it's “quite expensive”

In spite of being “quite expensive” for the average shopper, it has retained its no.1 spot, according to a survey.

In the survey conducted by consumer watchdog Which?, Mark and Spencer received the highest in-store customer score of 78%.

Shoppers have awarded it five stars for customer service, store appearance, availability and product range, while they also praised it for the quality of its own-label and fresh food.

For value for money, however, things are a bit different.

One shopper complained that “it is quite expensive”, while adding that “it’s nice to shop there for something a little special”.

In second place came Tesco, with a score of 76% by customers. The supermarket chain was praised across several categories and didn’t score below three stars in any of them.

However, Aldi was the only supermarket chain to receive the WRP badge for in-store shopping, matching Tesco's overall score of 76% and, along with Lidl, achieving the highest rating for value for money (four out of five stars).

On the other hand, Asda and Morrisons were joint-last for in-store shopping, as they both received a score of 68% by customers.

With a score of 71%, Asda also ranked last for online shopping.

Asda was “not as good as it used to”, according to one customer, while Morrisons “is not the cheapest and it's quite old-fashioned looking, according to a shopper.
