A binman on TikTok has revealed where you should discard one particular food waste item, and it requires careful handling.
If you’ve got a pan-full, disposing of your used cooking oil can be confusing.
As you might have known already, tipping it down the plughole isn’t a wise move, as it can quickly turn into solid and cause blockages in your plumbing, which is then costly.
But according to The No1 Binman on TikTok, who has described himself as a “binfluencer”, throwing it in the food bin is also not the proper way to handle it.
The bin expert says that the food waste bin is as unsuitable as pouring down the drain.
“Used cooking oil should go in your general waste. Do not put it in the food waste, and definitely not the recycling bin”, he says.

The No1 Binman says that throwing the oil straight into the bin risks damaging the liner, as he advised that “if you can, put it in a container or something that can't be recycled and then put it in your general waste. It stops it from going anywhere in case a bag splits.”
One place where you can dispose it is a milk carton or glass, and ensure that it has a secure lid.
“If you've got loads of it, like commerical, then no it doesn't go in your general bin. You'd have to either contact your council or get someone else to come and collect it”, the expert added.
However, he says that “if it's just like a normal family-sized amount of cooking oil, then it'll just go in your general waste.”
The No1 Binman is known for his advice when it comes to disposing of waste, as he also warned that you can’t toss one specific item into the bin.
