Dr Pepper baked beans are now a thing you can buy

Wil Jones

In the UK, at least, baked beans are synonymous with Heinz

True, a lot of supermarket own brands basically taste the same. But when you think of baked beans, you imagine blue, black and gold can. Beans, in tomato sauce, it’s simple, they go well with toast, or with a full English, you don’t need to mess with them.

Americans, however, are weird. They probably equate a can of beans with what cowboys had in the Wild West or something, and maybe have been playing too much Red Dead Redemption.

Because they’ve decided to add in fizzy drink Dr Pepper into the the mix.

In the US, Walmart are now selling ‘Sweet and A Little Bit Sassy Dr Pepper Baked Beans’, made by the Serious Bean Co. They appear to be sold out online, but are apparently still available in-store.

The 439g can retails for $1.48.

The description on the website reads: “With its blend of 23 flavors, Dr Pepper has long been a secret ingredient among top BBQ Pitmasters. The 23 original flavors of Dr Pepper give this batch its name and its amazing flavor. Sweet and Sassy success. No preservatives. Seriousy Delicious. Always original. Always bold. Always delicious.”

Cooking beans with soda is a bit of a thing in America. But this just seems all too much.
