If you’re a veggie or a vegan with a sweet tooth, then dairy-free Nutella is on its way

One German food brand have recently made their Hazelnut Chocolate Spread available to buy in the UK.

Hundreds of vegans have been going online to stock up on a new crunchy chocolate spread which is available online in the UK for the first time.

Vegan-friendly retailer TheVeganKind Supermarket is now stocking Vego’s brand new Hazelnut Chocolate Spread. Likened to a dairy-free Nutella, this is the first time the crunchy spread has been available online in the UK.

Vego Vegan Nutella Spread

The product has previously sold out online and has now been restocked and launched again as a result of the success of Vego’s Hazelnut Chocolate Bar. The bar was TheVeganKind’s best-selling chocolate bar.

This vegan-friendly item contains roughly half the saturated fat of a typical chocolate spread. If you’re looking to stay trim, it’s arguably a better option. After all, calories from fat are over double what you’d find in protein and carb-rich foods.

Fats have nine calories in each gram as opposed to the four calories per gram that protein and carbs contain.

Vego’s spread also contains 6.3 grams of protein, per 100 gram serving.

The biggest difficult with a vegetarian or vegan diet is obtaining enough protein. Unlike animal proteins, plant proteins do not contain the same profile of amino acids.

If you’re living a meat-free lifestyle and are looking to hit your quota of protein, you can’t rely on a single source of plant protein. Instead, you should combine sources.

An example of this would be a vegan stir-fry, combining ingredients such as lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans, tofu and peas.
