Aldi is about to sell the world’s finest steak for just £7

Wagyu waiting for?

Ben Kenyon

Stop what you’re doing right now and get yourself down to Aldi, steak-lovers.

Camp outside all night, roll your sleeping bag up by the doors, do whatever it takes because the German budget supermarket chain is about to offer the deal of the century.

Aldi stores nationwide are about to start selling ‘the world’s best steak’ from Thursday.

Wagyu beef is widely regarded as the greatest steak on the planet because of its unique flavour and succulence – and it normally sells anywhere above £100 per kg at boutique butchers.

But Aldi are flogging it for a fraction of the normal price with an 8oz steak of this glorious cow going for just £7.29.

Wagyu ribeye, or Wagyu sirloin, will both be sold on the shelves – but the Liverpool Echo report that there’s a two steak limit for customers as there’s expected to be a mad rush of meat eaters wanting to try it.

Wagyu originated in Japan and got its world-beating reputation thanks to unique marbled fat of the meat, which has an incredibly low melting point that gives it the flavour.

The cattle are famously massaged and given beer during the hot months in Japan, which supposedly adds to the flavour.

Kobe beef is the epitome of champagne steak – and can fetch £500 per kg.

Aldi’s Wagyu comes from grass-fed cattle in New Zealand, but we’re not going to lie – we’ll be first in the queue for a slice of that. Spark up the barbie.
