John David Washington to Star in Horror Thriller 'Mime'

As The Hollywood Reporter first detailed, the film will be directed by Nikyatu Jusu, who made her feature debut with the Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Nanny. Fans of a genuinely anxiety-inducing horror movie will note the pedigree behind the camera, with plot details being kept firmly under wraps.

The spec screenplay was written by Stephen Herman, based on his original idea. Producing are Matt Tolmach, who packaged the project, and The Black Phone filmmaker Scott Derrickson via his Crooked Highway banner. Washington will also produce alongside Camila Grove.

Jusu's Nanny was a psychological horror starring Anna Diop as an immigrant nanny whose life in America becomes derailed by unsettling visions, and it was acquired by Amazon and Blumhouse.

Washington broke through in Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman before starring in Christopher Nolan's Tenet and Gareth Edwards' The Creator, and was last seen in the 2024 drama The Piano Lesson. A release date for Mime has yet to be announced.
