Apparently your body wakes you up naturally by increasing your levels of the 'stress hormone' cortisol, as you brush your teeth all squinty-eyed in the shower.
Cortisol is linked to alertness and generally peaks between 8am and 9am.
But rather than complimenting this wakey-wakey hormone, the effects of caffeine are actually diminished by cortisol.
This means you build up a tolerance to the stimulant and will need even more coffee to perk you up later on.
Scientists say you should wait at least an hour after you've woken up before wolfing down a turbo brew...
