Tom Hardy posts disturbing pics showing transformation into vicious gangster Al Capone

The Chicago mobster was directly responsible for the deaths of over 30 people.

A man not to mess with.

Tom Hardy is well-known for playing hard as nails, uncompromising characters, from Charles Bronson and the Kray Twins to Mad Max and Warrior‘s Tommy Riordan. Even Bane, who sounded like an asthma attack waiting to happen, was probably somebody you wouldn’t tap on the shoulder if he spilt your pint.

He’s continuing the tradition by taking on the starring role in the upcoming biopic about notorious Chicago gangster Al Capone, titled Fonzo.  The film is still in the early stages of production but on Sunday Hardy uploaded the first picture of him in character as the Five Points-born mob boss.

Predictably, he looks the absolute business.

Whilst Capone has often been painted as a charitable and popular figure during his time, he was also notoriously violent and ruthless. The Saint Valentine’s Day massacre is perhaps the most well-known example of his brutality, when he had seven rival gang members lined up and shot in broad daylight.

The film itself will focus predominately on Capone’s later years, from his near-decade spent behind bars for tax evasion to his struggles with syphilitic dementia that worsened after his released. He died of a heart attack – caused by a stroke – in his Florida mansion in 1947.

If this initial image of Hardy is anything to go by, this will be one not to miss.
