Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson celebrate 35th wedding anniversary

‘Love is everything’

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary with a touching post on social media.

Sharing a picture of Hanks giving her a ‘happy anniversary’ cake, Wilson wrote on Twitter and Instagram: “35 years of marriage. April 30, 1988. Love is everything.”

Together, the couple of two children, Chet and Truman Hanks.

In 2015, the Saving Private Ryan actor said he felt an instant spark with Wilson when he was asked about how they’d managed to stay together for so long.

He told Entertainment Tonight: “When we first looked at each other there was definitely a kind of, ‘Hey, this is the place!’ I felt that anyway.

“I think the end result is that we got married for all the right reasons.”

In 1978, Hanks had married his college sweetheart Samanta Lewes. Together, the couple had a son, Colin and daughter, Elizabeth.

But they divorced in 1987, with Hanks marrying his now-wife Wilson the following year.

In an appearance on the BBC’s Desert Island Discs, he said: “I don’t think I’ll ever be lonely anymore… that’s how I felt when I met my wife.”

The pair both went on to appear in 1993 romantic comedy “Sleepless in Seattle,” while Wilson went on to produce a number of movies, including “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” in 2002.

Wilson has also had music career, and released her debut solo album ‘AM/FM’ in 2012.

In March 2020, the couple both caught Covid in Australia, and documented their quarantine experience. Hanks has been an outspoken advocate of mask-wearing ever since.

Wilson is part Greek, and Hanks is a Greek Orthodox convert, and in July 2020 the pair became Greek citizens.
