Documentary on one of the most iconic Simpsons episodes is coming to television

From the man behind Super Size Me

Conor Heneghan

This sounds very promising.

It’s up for debate whether it’s actually the best episode of The Simpsons (it’s certainly up there), but there are few more memorable than Homer at the Bat in Season 3.

To give you a brief reminder, the nuclear plant’s softball team goes on a memorable run thanks to Homer’s discovery of a lucky bat, but when success is in sight, Mr. Burns decides to call in a raft of high-profile ringers to try and finish the job, namely Wade Boggs, Ozzie Smith, Ken Griffey Jr., Jose Canseco, Roger Clemens, Don Mattingly, Steve ‘Saxxy Boy’ Sax, Mike Scioscia and Darryl Strawberry.

The episode was already celebrated by the Baseball Hall of Fame on its 25th anniversary earlier this year and now it’s set to be the subject of a ‘mockumentary’, made by none other than famous documentarian Morgan Spurlock, the man behind Super Size Me amongst other projects.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Springfield of Dreams: The Legend of Homer Simpson will air on Fox in the US this weekend, featuring cameos from regular Simpsons characters such as Karl Karlsson and Comic Book Guy as well as some of the famous contributors to the episode, such as Steve Sax and Jose Canseco.

The likes of Nick Offerman, Russell Brand, Bob Costas and current New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge will also make an appearance in the hour-long special, which will air before the afternoon MLB games this coming Sunday.

If and when it appears over this side of the world remains to be seen but for now, check out the preview clip below.

No sign of Ozzie Smith in that teaser, mysteriously…
