Ryan Reynolds reveals first image of Hugh Jackman in Wolverine suit for Deadpool 3

The yellow and blue suit is back

Ryan Reynolds has shared the first picture of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for Deadpool 3.

The Marvel Studios production is currently shooting, with Reynolds reprising his role as the fourth-wall-breaking ‘Merc with a Mouth’ and Jackman coming out of retirement to play Wolverine.

And Reynolds has taken to social media to give fans their first glimpse of Jackman in the iconic yellow Wolverine supersuit.

He shared the image with the caption: “Don’t blink.”

Deadpool 3 will be 10th time Jackman has played the X-Men superhero, but the first time since 2017’s Logan, which was widely accepted as his farewell to the character, especially given that (spoiler warning) Wolverine dies at the end.

With details on the plot for Deadpool 3 still under wraps, it is not yet known what the story behind his return will be. What we do know is that he’s playing a different version of the character to the one that died in Logan – that version very much did die.

This shouldn’t be much of a surprise to fans, with the first two Deadpool films having taken place in a different cinematic universe to the original X-Men films.

The picture of Jackman in the Wolverine getup sent X-Men fans into overdrive, with many taking to social media to share their excitement for his return.

In particular, many were delighted to see Jackman donning the original yellow-and-blue colours from the X-Men comics.

One Twitter user said: “This is soo hard.”

“The mad lads! They finally did it! They finally got Hugh Jackman in the OG Wolverine suit……now if only they could get the mask,” another commented.

A third added: “The suit looks perfect! Can wait for the mask reveal.”

And a fourth wrote: “No way! They went for the yellow jumpsuit?! Yes! The mask too?”

Speaking to Collider last year about Jackman’s return to the X-Men universe, Reynolds said: “I don’t believe that I’m responsible for Hugh coming back. I always wanted Hugh to come back.

“My first meeting with Kevin Feige when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago, or three and a half, four years ago, I’m not sure, was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool Wolverine movie. And that was not possible at the time.

“And then Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he’d be interested in coming back and doing this one more time. And the contents of that conversation, I’ll let Hugh answer that on his own.

“But he expressed interest in coming back, and then it was my job to take that to Kevin Feige one more time and sell it.”

Although the plot is under wraps, details about the cast are emerging and the rumour mill is in overdrive.

Following Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios has been gradually folding the X-Men characters into the MCU, beginning with Deadpool 3.

Originally, the film was meant to be released in cinemas across the globe on 3 May 2024, however, Disney pulled back the release time to six months earlier, with it now due to hit screen on 8 November.
