Ryan Reynolds plays another character in Deadpool 2 but nobody noticed

James Dawson

It’s a major role in the film too

After all the hype and build up Deadpool 2 finally arrived in cinemas this week and fans weren’t disappointed.

Characters such as Cable and Domino are introduced in the sequel, but the biggest introduction was arguably the return of the Juggernaut.

The actor who played the all-digital Juggernaut has up until now been kept under wraps, in fact, the actor is credited as ‘himself’ after the movie ends. But it turns out the man who voiced and did the facial capture for the character, at the very least, was none other than Ryan Reynolds.

The jig was up after screenwriter Rhett Reese revealed the news to CBR. He said: “Ryan Reynolds ended up voicing Juggernaut, if you didn’t know that.

“That was Ryan’s voice as the Juggernaut, and he did the facial capture for him. I don’t know how they did the physical motion-capture – I don’t think that was Ryan.”

The character’s last appearance was in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, where he was played by Vinnie Jones, however, it seems like they’d done away with the former Wimbledon defender. Screenwriters Reese and Paul Wernick, said they took the decision as a way to overhaul the character.

Reese added:  “We committed to it pretty early on, because he’s never been done justice until now.

“We always wanted to see a CG Juggernaut, so we finally got that. We also really needed to balance the scales in act three, between Deadpool and friends and little Firefist who has cool powers, but we needed to make it a fair fight.

“What greater force of nature than Juggernaut?”
