Players take home £100,000 on The Chase and break record for highest win on daytime TV

A big moment for afternoon telly

Players on The Chase won a combined total of £100,000 today - the highest amount ever won on a daytime TV show.

Diane, Luca, Tim and Gayna were each handed £25,000 after beating Chaser Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty and taking 21 steps on the board.

Anne ran out of time with 14 steps to go. Diane, who opted to take the higher offer of £86,000, was the main reason for the total - with the rest taking home £7,000, £3,000 and £4,000 respectively.

Following the heroics, Gayna said she planned to spend the prize money on a "wing walk" experience, Diane wanted to go on a family holiday and Tim planned to purchase a motorhome.

Bizarrely, medical student Luca claimed he would now order two takeaways a week until he graduated – including one from The Ritz.

Following her defeat, Anne said: "I hope The Ritz does do takeaways because you deserve it – you all do. Very, very well played.

"I didn’t expect to win that one to be honest. Very good indeed."

While Bradley Walsh said: "What a show! I’m thrilled for the team.

"They go home with £25k each. It just shows you, it can be done!"
