Here we go again (again)

A Mamma Mia 3 film has seemingly been confirmed by one of the franchise’s leading figures.

In 2008, we all went ABBA-crazy when Judy Craymer”s much-loved musical was brought to the big screen.

Featuring Hollywood A-listers like Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, the first Mamma Mia was a huge success, grossing more than $600m worldwide.

A decade later, fans were treated to a sequel, ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’, which featured none other than Cher – and it looks like a third instalment is on the cards.

Confirmation of a third Mamma Mia film perhaps came from an unusual source though – Alan Carr.

The ‘Chatty Man’ has been working with Craymer on ‘Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream’, a new reality competition show searching for the next person to play Sophie in Mamma Mia! on the West End.

Appearing on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, Alan said: “I’ve got an exclusive for you, Judy Craymer the producer has said that I’m going to be in Mamma Mia 3.”

After some shock from co-host Sian, Alan continued: “Yes! And we did a press conference and I said, ‘Say it, say it!’. Because she’d had a few wines when she said it so I wanted her to say it in front of all the press…so there you go.”

Still seeking some clarification, Sian asked: “So, as in the film?” to which the 47-year-old comedian answered: “The film, yeah – I’m going to Hollywood baby!”

Craymer, who produced the first Mamma Mia film, has previously spoken about her desire to do a third film.

Speaking to Deadline earlier this year, she said: “I don’t want to over-egg it, but I know there’s a trilogy there.

“There is a story there, and I do think Meryl should come back – and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna.”
