Luke Cage is back with another explosive Netflix trailer

They just keep coming

Matt Tate

The Marvel and Netflix collaboration has been one of the most exciting things to happen to TV in some time.

Although all of Marvel’s superheroes and antagonists exist in the same universe, tonally the shows they’re putting out on the streaming service are worlds apart from their more colourful blockbuster counterparts.

Anyone who’s watched the superb Jessica Jones or the first two seasons of Daredevil will know, Marvel’s Netflix offerings are much darker and grittier than anything you’re going to find in the MCU’s big-screen output. They also tell much more intimate stories. The Avengers are bickering with each other about how best to protect the future of the planet – the more unconventional Matt Murdoch and Jessica Jones are just as concerned with saving the residents of their apartment blocks and neighbourhoods.

Which brings us nicely on to Luke Cage, the upcoming Netflix exclusive series which has just had its first full-length trailer. We’ve already met the bulletproof strongman from Harlem in the aforementioned Jessica Jones, and while that supporting role focussed a lot on the complicated love interest between the pair, it was obvious that Cage (Mike Colter) had a story worthy of its own show. We’ve already had a glimpse of the show at Comic-Con, but this new trailer gives us a much better idea of what to expect.

Season one of Luke Cage will start streaming from September 30, with 13 episodes available from the off. Down the line fans can expect to see the superhero team up with Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron First in ensemble show The Defenders sometime in 2017.
