Lucy Davis Reveals ‘Incurable’ Stage 4 Breast Cancer Diagnosis

The Office star Lucy Davis has revealed she has been diagnosed with ‘incurable’ stage 4 breast cancer, telling fans she is ‘at peace’ with whatever comes next. The 53-year-old, best known as receptionist Dawn Tinsley in Ricky Gervais’s original UK sitcom, shared the news in a statement on Instagram on Tuesday.

Davis said she was diagnosed a year and a half ago and that the cancer has spread to her bones — specifically her spine, right hip and ribs — describing it as ‘incurable, and too late for chemo’. The Birmingham-born actress, daughter of comedian Jasper Carrott, starred in The Office from 2001 to 2003 before roles in Shaun of the Dead, Wonder Woman and Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The sitcom celebrated its 25th anniversary only last month.

Lucy Davis: ‘Get everything checked out’

‘The initial lump that I felt, wasn’t a “lump” as such; rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn’t bother getting it checked. So I guess I’m saying don’t ignore anything – get everything checked out,’ she wrote, as reported by BBC News.

I’m not scared of whatever comes next. I’m at peace with it. Any and all grieving is for my family; it’s far harder for them than for me.

Davis said she is now trying to live out ‘whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can’. Her call for people to get symptoms checked echoes that of swimmer Archie Goodburn, who issued an emotional plea after his own incurable cancer diagnosis.
