In a recent interview, Ramsey said they will return as Ellie later in the summer as production continues in Vancouver, with the new run centred on Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever.

The actor explained they had deliberately stepped back after a demanding schedule.

The series, based on the 2013 Naughty Dog video game created by Neil Druckmann, follows the bond between Ellie and Joel in a world ravaged by a deadly virus, and remains one of the best thrillers and dramas to stream.

"I was getting to a place where I’d done a bit too much and was starting to not enjoy it, a bit, and not feel inspired, and feel a bit resentful of it," they are reported to have said.

Ramsey added that pausing was important for their younger self, for whom the game had been a favourite.

With filming ongoing in Canada, fans of The Last of Us can expect Ellie’s return to the shoot in the coming weeks, Screen Rant reports.
