Fans want Linda and Mick reunited

Linda Carter is leaving EastEnders in 2027 after 13 years on the soap, and fans have already settled on the ending they want to see: Mick Carter coming back.

Linda and Mick, played by Danny Dyer, first arrived in Walford together in 2013, taking over the Queen Vic and becoming one of the soap’s most memorable couples.

Their relationship was tested repeatedly over the years, including affairs, major personal trauma and Linda’s struggle with alcoholism, but they continued to make it through.

Their marriage eventually fell apart after Janine drove a wedge between them. Mick later disappeared into the English Channel after falling while attempting to rescue Janine from a cliff, and because his body was never found, fans have never completely ruled out his return.

Dyer wants Mick back

Dyer has also kept the possibility alive with comments about reprising the role. At the 2024 NTAs, he joked that EastEnders should “bring Mick back”, while ahead of the soap’s 40th anniversary, he told KISS Breakfast Radio Show: “I’ve chucked it out there. I think I need to go back and save my wife Linda, who’s now become a murderess.”

The actor had previously joked in 2023 that he could return by “walking in the Queen Vic smothered in seaweed”.

Now that Linda’s departure is confirmed, fans believe there is an obvious way to close her story. Mick’s disappearance has always left the door slightly open, and bringing him back for Linda’s exit would finally give the Carter storyline a chance to come full circle.
