Ye’s new album is due out today

Kanye West has complicated things for his fans on the day of his new album release by announcing that Donda 2 won’t be available on traditional streaming platforms.

The artist made the announcement on Instagram late Thursday night with bold lettering: “‘DONDA 2’ WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE ON STREAMING PLATFORMS.”

The rapper, who now wants to be known simply as ‘Ye’, added: “We did it Don’t matter what happens 2mrw This happened tonight For the first time in a long time I feel alive we did it kid we did lord lift me up things change let’s keep it burning …”

Kanye also tweeted what appeared to be the album’s tracklist, with 22 song names written on lined paper in black marker pen.

The album will only be available on the star’s Stem streaming service and will cost around £150 for British listeners, which includes membership to the service and a ‘free’ speaker, included for new subscribers.

Fans have criticised the controversial musician on social media for pricing them out. One wrote: “‘very, very, very sad that Donda 2 has to be purchased with that speaker, $200”.

Another said: “I love Kanye West, but I’m sorry capitalism that I can’t afford to make rich people richer. I ain’t gonna buy the new Stem player just for DONDA 2, even if he emailed it to me personally. If he wants to put it out on, perfect, if not, then hope his album makes numbers.”

It comes during a turbulent period for the rapper, in which critics and fans have voiced concerns over his mental health following his break up with reality star Kim Kardashian.

West has written a number of inflammatory posts on social media about Kardashian’s new boyfriend Pete Davidson, which prompted Ye’s ex-wife to beg West to stop putting Davidson in danger. He has even allegedly claimed that Davidson has AIDS in an effort to break the couple up.

“U are creating a dangerous and scary environment and someone will hurt Pete and this will all be your fault,” Kardashian wrote to West in text messages he leaked on his Instagram which have since been deleted.

Other screenshots have revealed Kardashian asking West why he can’t keep their conversations private. West shared his response, which read: “Cause I got a text from my favourite person in the world. I’m your number one fan. Why wouldn’t I tell everyone!!!!!”

West has also shared private messages from Davidson on his Instagram, all of which have now been deleted.

West and Kardashian split up in 2021 after first dating in 2012. They have four children together.

Donda 2 is Kanye’s 10th studio album. Over a 25-year career, West has became one of the biggest-selling artists in the world, with over 160 million records sold.
