HBO is waging war on porn sites that upload Game of Thrones clips for your viewing, er, pleasure

Matt Tate

We already know that Game of Thrones has a big influence over what porn-lovers plug into their search engines on the nights when episodes air.

It’s no surprise that the X-rated side of Westeros can get people a bit over-excited, and sites like PornHub tend to see a huge spike in GoT-related traffic after a naked scene.

But that might not be the case for much longer if HBO has its way. The network is clamping down on explicit sites using content from the show, claiming that doing so is a breach of copyright.

Clips featuring Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Natalie Dormer’s Margaery Tyrell – the two most searched characters – are currently readily accessible to porn site users, as well as a number of GoT-themed parodies that feature characters such as Cersei Lannister and, weirdly, Lord Varys.

In the past HBO might have simply written it off as free advertising, but it looks like their stance has shifted, and PornHub has a battle on its hands to retain the sex scenes that afforded it a 370 per cent surge on the night of the season six premiere.

A spokesman for the company told The Sun: “HBO is aware of the issue and is in the process of getting material taken down from Pornhub.”
