King Charles has stripped 15 people of their honours – Here’s the full list

Homenews

King Charles has stripped 15 people of their honours so far this year.

Receiving an honour from the British monarch represents one of the highest forms of recognition an individual in the United Kingdom can attain. However, such honours are not irrevocable and may be forfeited under certain circumstances.

Usually, it is done for those who have criminal convictions, misconduct or being struck off from a regulatory body.

In fact, since January of this year, King Charles has taken away honours, including MBEs, OBEs, KCBs and other honours from 15 individuals for various reasons, as reported by the Oxford Mail.

The most high profile individual impacted is former DUP politician Jeffrey Donaldson who had his knighthood removed in July.

Earlier this month, Donaldson was handed a 15-year prison sentence for a series of historical sex offences against two women when they were children.

Conservative MP Liam Walker praised the decision to remove Donaldson's knighthood, saying: "Honours are awarded to recognise outstanding service and achievement, and anyone convicted of serious criminal offences has forfeited the privilege of holding them.

"Stripping those honours helps protect the integrity and value of the honours system."

As detailed by in reports, the Cabinet office made clear that eight further honour forfeitures were announced in March as well as five in October.
