Britain’s Got Talent winner booed in chaotic final

Charlie Herbert

Viggo is Britain's Got Talent winner

‘Worst Britain’s Got Talent result ever!’

The Britain’s Got Talent winner appeared to be booed by the crowd after his victory on Sunday night, with viewers at home left fuming by the result.

Hi-vis-wearing dancer Viggo Venn was voted the winner by the public, picking up the £250,000 prize and a slot at the Royal Variety Performance.

But it seemed both the audience at the live final and the viewers at home were more preoccupied by who hadn’t won.

Viggo beat favourites Musa Motha – an inspirational dancer who had a leg amputated at the age of 11 – and Malaka Bayoh – a young opera singer who brought the judges to tears with his audition earlier in the series.

When Viggo was announced as the winner, he rushed on stage and slide tackled Ant McPartlin, bringing him to the ground.

And it sounded like some of the audience were pretty unhappy with the result, with boos being heard.

Many took to Twitter to voice their fury at the result as well.

One viewer tweeted: “Very surprised. But Viggo was very funny. Very distasteful for anyone to boo Viggo. Not his fault he won, people voted for him, not anyone else. Made it a sour end thanks to the audience reaction. Well done, Viggo!!! #BritainsGotTalent #BGT2023 #bgt.”

Another said: “Sounded like a lot of boos there when #ViggoVenn was announced as the winner of #BritainsGotTalent. I thought he was great but a shock omissions from the final 3, and I think everyone thought the young lad would win. Bit of a deflated, down-beat end to the series #BGT2023 #BGT.”

And a third commented: “Did you hear them boo’s on @BGT? Quite right too, ridiculous. So much more talent in that final tonight. #BGT2023 should not have made the live shows. Poor winner.”

Another unhappy viewer went as far to say they were “NEVER EVER EVER EVER watching @BGT #BritainsGotTalent again.” They labelled the show an “absolute shambles”, adding: “a guy running about in a high vis vest over so much proper genuine real talent? the boos in that audience, shocked faces and genuine tears said it all for me.”

Someone else said the show had hit “rock bottom.”

“By a stretch, that is the worst Britain’s Got Talent result EVER. If that really is genuine, then the British voting public should be ashamed and embarrassed. Booing from the audience, and rightly so. Some real talent missed out there. Joke. #BGT2023 #BritainsGotTalent #BGT,” one fumed.
