A police force has been mocked for releasing an appeal to catch a speeding e-scooter rider who “looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator”.

Nottinghamshire Police issued photos of a man they are trying to track down following reports of speeding in Chilwell, Nottingham, at 9.30pm on 15 September.

The CCTV image shows the heavily-built suspect, sporting sunglasses and dark clothing, while riding along the street at night on the electric vehicle.

Web users were quick to point out the comical resemblance to Arnie’s T-800 cyborg from Terminator 2 – but with his signature motorbike swapped for an e-scooter.

Others criticised the force and questioned whether trying to trace someone speeding on an e-scooter – which usually go between 15-30mph – was a good use of police time.

After the force posted the appeal on social media, Daniel Sparrow commented: “Nottingham police what a joke, leave terminator from “wish” alone and find more pressing concerns”.

Damien Ellis quipped: “I want your clothes your boots and your e-scooter.”

Russell Edd Smith said, “It’s Arnold as the terminator” while Ben Jones added: “The T-800 has fallen on hard times having to swap his bike for an e-scooter.”

Steve Daniels said: “Love how the green framing looks quite like the POV vision of the Terminator too – Scan mode. Target identified. Affirmative.”

Nick Martin wrote: “Is it worth it ? why put resources to this when there is far worse things out there need your attention!!!”

The force said they were appealing for the public’s help to trace the man after receiving reports of speeding in Bye Pass Road.

Sergeant Andy Foulds, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Dangerous driving and speeding will never be tolerated on our roads and will always be met with a robust response.

“I want to remind people that even if you do not see officers on the roadsides, we will always use all of the resources available to us to clamp down on speeding motorists and dangerous drivers.

“We are hoping the public will be able to help us trace the man in this image as we believe he could help us with our investigation.

“I want to ask anyone who recognises the man to get in touch with us by following the below details or making an anonymous report via Crimestoppers.”
