Phillip Schofield has issued a damning statement disowning his brother after he was convicted of sexually abusing a teenage boy.

The This Morning presenter said he “no longer has a brother” after Timothy Schofield was on Monday found guilty at Exeter Crown Court of sexually abusing a teenage boy over a period of three years

The 61-year-old said: “My overwhelming concern is and has always been for the wellbeing of the victim and his family. I hope that their privacy will now be respected.

“If any crime had ever been confessed to me by my brother, I would have acted immediately to protect the victim and their family.

“These are despicable crimes, and I welcome the guilty verdicts.

“As far as I am concerned, I no longer have a brother.”

Timothy, 54, was charged with 11 sexual offences involving a child between 2016 and 2019, including two of sexual activity with a child.

The IT technician for Avon and Somerset Police denied performing sexual acts on the teenager and claimed they watched pornography together and had masturbated while sitting apart.

Timothy was convicted of three counts of causing a child to watch sexual activity and three of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, three counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, and two of sexual activity with a child after five hours deliberation.

Phillip Schofield did not appear on ITV’s This Morning last week and the studio said he was taking “pre-planned leave”.

Timothy has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at Bristol Crown Court on May 19.
