Russell Howard ‘devastated’ by the death of his ‘beautiful baby boy’ moments after birth

The comedian announced the death of his baby boy Felix

Russel explains that the unexpected death occurred months ago, but he and his wife, Dr. Cerys Morgan, decided to grieve behind closed doors as they had not announced the pregnancy publicly. 

“Earlier this year, our family changed forever when our beautiful baby boy, Felix, died shortly after birth,” he wrote.

“During the most devastating time of our lives, the hospital staff who cared for us showed extraordinary compassion, kindness and humanity. 

“They helped us navigate an unimaginable heartache and gave us support when we needed it most.”

The couple were assigned a bereavement midwife, “Lauren, who experienced a similar tragedy,” Russel said.

He went on explaining how Lauren retrained as a midwife to come in aid to families going through the same experience as she did. 

Russel describes Felix being placed in a cool cot, meaning he and his wife could enjoy “precious hours with our beautiful boy.”

“Those hours are among the most precious memories we have of Felix,” said the comedian.

The comedian, 46, inspired by Lauren’s conviction, decided to help others experiencing such tragedies, despite the overwhelming sadness coming over the family.

Russell announced The Felix Foundation, aimed to come in aid to “members affected by miscarriage premature birth.”

The Felix Foundation aims in “supporting the additional training of midwives in specialist bereavement care. 

Russell comments that yearly grants would “enable them to access resources such as counselling qualifications.

“Funding resources to provide emotional support and practical assistance.”

He adds that the foundation would provide “ information, guidance, signposting and other resources to affected families.”

Russell will host a charity event at the O2 Arena on 8 February 2027, to raise funds for the foundation. 

The event will feature tenured British comedians with the likes of: Jimmy Carr, Michael McIntyre, Aisling Bea, Mo Gilligan, Michelle Wolf, Guz Khan and Greg Davies.

Russell thanked the comedians for their participation, saying: “Every single one of these incredible performers is giving their time completely free of charge.

“I will never forget their generosity.”

Concluding his message, the comedian said: “The Felix Foundation is named after our beautiful son. 

“We miss him dearly, every single day, but we take some comfort in knowing that his name will stand for kindness, compassion and laughter.

“That his legacy may help other families through the darkest moments of their lives.

“We would love it if you came along and helped us make Felix’s legacy something truly special.”
