Charles has awarded the Princess of Wales a new title

The Princess has been recognised for her years of service with a new title being bestowed to her by King Charles.

Kate, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, has been awarded the The Royal Companion of The Order of the Companions of Honour.

This makes Kate the most senior holder of the Order of the Companions of Honour. Other title holders include Paul McCartney and Sir David Attenborough.

JK Rowling, Desmond Tutu and Elton John have also received the title.

Prince William has also been given a new title. He is now Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, marking his takeover from Charles who held the title before he became King.

“It is recognition and reward for services and work that the Prince, Princess, Queen and Duchess have contributed to public life, all the more so since Accession,” a royal source told The Sun about the new honours.

The Duchess of Gloucester has received the Companions to the Order of the Garter, among four others to be bestowed with the title.

Air Chief Marshal the Lord Peach, Lord Kakkar and Lord Andrew Webber round out the new Companions to the Order of the Garter.
