Former Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari has accused Fifa and Uefa for not caring about racism in football.

The Ghanaian, who now plays in Italy for Pescara, was sent off for leaving the pitch during a game on April 30 after claiming he was racially abused.

In an interview with the BBC, the 32-year-old claimed he had been “treated like a criminal” after the incident.

“I went off the field because I felt it wasn’t right for me to be on the field while I have been racially abused,” he explained.

Muntari had asked referee Daniele Minelli to stop the Serie A game away at Cagliari, only to be booked for dissent. This prompted him to leave the pitch in protest, which saw him receive a second yellow card.

Muntari confronted Cagliari fans after the incident, shouting “this is my colour” in their direction. He was then given a one-game ban which was later overturned by the Italian Football Federation.

Muntari also used the interview to urge victims of racist abuse to speak out.

“My message is anyone who is abused should not be scared to talk, you should speak out,” added Muntari.

“You should not be scared of anybody, you are strong, you should say whatever you want to say.”
