England’s bowlers tear through Pakistan’s batting order

Pakistan made several changes after losing the first two matches of the series, but the new line-up struggled immediately. 

Saim Ayub was out for a duck, giving Ollie Robinson his 100th Test wicket, before Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue continued to pick apart the batting order.

Tongue was England’s leading bowler with 4-42, including the wickets of Babar Azam and debutants Ghazi Ghori and Imran Randhawa. 

Archer finished with 3-25, while Robinson took 3-15 from 11 extremely economical overs.

Saud Shakeel offered some resistance with 43, but Pakistan had no other major contributions. Mohammad Abbas made 21 before Archer took the final wicket.

England also lost two early wickets in their reply, with Ben Duckett making 11 and Jordan Cox just four. However, Emilio Gay and Harry Brook both passed fifty to put the hosts on 156-4 by the close.

Joe Root was another England wicket, falling lbw for the 10th time in his last 13 Test innings, but his dismissal did little to change the overall picture.

England finished the day 23 runs ahead and in control of the match. They have already secured the series after winning the second Test at Lord’s by 194 runs, and are now pushing for a 3-0 sweep.
