Just what you need before a Champions League quarter final

Romelu Lukaku had to act as peacemaker on the eve of Inter Milan’s Champions League quarter final against Benfica after he separated two of his teammates in a training ground bust-up.

Inter head into the second leg with a healthy two-goal lead and should they progress, will take on city rivals AC Milan for a place in the final on June 10.

The Italian side are favourites going into the game however footage from a recent training session before the game shows that all is not well behind the scenes.

In the video, goalkeeper Andre Onana dived in with a late challenge on Marcelo Brozovic during a rondo, prompting a furious reaction from the Croatia international.

Moments later, Brozovic kicked a towel in disgust before they both looked to square up to each other, only for Lukaku to sprint over and separate the two before calming the midfielder down.

Danilo D’Ambrosio also played a role in preventing the situation from escalating.

It follows days after Inter’s surprise defeat against Monza, which dealt another blow to the Nerazzurri’s top-four hopes however Simone Inzaghi still remains confident ahead of their clash against Benfica.

“We know it’s the second half of a very important tie, we start with an advantage but we know the quality of the opponent,” he said.

“It will be complicated and we will have to be good. Knowing that we could be in the top 4 in Europe would be a great goal.

“We’ll have to play a game in the best possible way against an opponent of great quality, who like Inter are down in terms of results but not in performances. Benfica had lost two games in one year, now they’ve lost three in a week.”
