Kazuyoshi Miura will continue playing for another year at least

The world’s oldest professional footballer will continue playing for at least another year after he signed for his latest club on Tuesday morning.

Kazuyoshi Miura was recently announced as Japanese fourth-tier side Suzuka Point Getters’ – who are managed by his brother – latest signing.

Miura admitted that he had offers from several clubs around Japan as well as overseas after his departure from top-flight side Yokohama FC in the J-League, but chose to reunite with family in what will be the 15th club of his career.

The legendary forward, who turns 55 next month, played just a minute of football for them last season as they finished bottom of the table, but became the world’s oldest professional footballer at 54 years and 12 days after he was a late substitute against Urawa Reds.

and said he was “thankful that I’ve been given the chance to play here,” following his confirmation that he had joined Suzuka.

As repotted by France24, the forward – who’s commonly known as ‘King Kazu’ – wants to continue playing until he is 60 by which he will have played professional football for more than 40 years.

Miura was one of the marquee players in Japanese football after the launch of the J-League in 1993, leading his side Verdy Kawasaki to two league titles and score over 100 goals for the club.

The 54-year-old also made 89 appearances for his national side and is the country’s second-highest all-time scorer with 55 goals.
