Could De Jong be heading to Anfield?

Liverpool are interested in signing Frenkie de Jong this summer as Jürgen Klopp looks to bolster his midfield before the end of the transfer window.

The Times have reported that De Jong is of interest to Liverpool, who are in desperate need of new recruits in the middle of the park following a spate of injuries.

Klopp had initially said they hadn’t planned to add any more signings but with a growing injury list and poor start to the season, the German has admitted that they have had to reassess.

He said: “That [looking to sign a player] changed, of course. I know we have had this discussion since it all started and I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and you were all right and I was wrong. That’s the situation. But the specific point doesn’t change — we will do something but it has to be the right one.

“We are actually working constantly on these things, sometimes [it is] too expensive, sometimes not the right player, sometimes the situation changes. We are working and will see if something will happen or not. I don’t know.”

De Jong has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou summer long and has been linked with moves to Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea.

Jude Bellingham is also another player admired by Liverpool but Borussia Dortmund have stressed that the England International isn’t for sale this summer after losing Erling Haaland to Manchester City this year.

The Reds are looking for their first win of the season and face AFC Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday knowing they can’t afford to fall further behind in the title race, even though it is still early into the season.
