But will they want him?
It will not be news to you anymore that Real Madrid are struggling this season. The European Champions’ recent troubles have been well documented here and everywhere else. They are currently fourth in La Liga, 19 points behind runaway leaders Barcelona, 10 points behind local rivals Atlético Madrid and just one point behind a resurgent Valencia.
Madrid dropped points again this weekend as Levante fought hard and clinched a point with a late equaliser from Giampaolo Pazzini. This tendency of not being able to see out games, sloppily dropping points and generally looking bereft of ideas with the ball has sparked rumours of a squad overhaul as well as Zinedine Zidane’s exit.
The famous front three of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema have not been able to play together as much as Zidane would have liked this term due to Bale’s injury problems and Ronaldo’s ban at the start of the season, and we may not see them play together for much longer.
According to Diario Gol, Madrid have offered Benzema to various clubs, including Juventus, Spurs, Manchester United and Arsenal. In most cases, the Frenchman would be a makeweight in a swap deal. Madrid are looking at rejuvenating their attack with younger attackers such as Paulo Dybala and Harry Kane, hence the rumours of Benzema moving to Juventus or Tottenham.
Arsenal have had a well known interest in Benzema for a long period of time, but having signed Alexandre Lacazette and and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the past two windows, it is unlikely that the Gunners will make Benzema a priority. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that Arsenal have more pressing concerns with their squad.
Similarly, Manchester United have a plethora of good attacking players, many of whom are younger than Benzema. It would not be a logical transfer to bring him to Old Trafford.
According to the report in Diario Gol, Benzema does not speak with players such as Isco and Marco Asensio more than he is obliged to as a member of the squad. If the striker’s relationship with the younger, homegrown players in the squad has deteriorated, he will almost certainly be out the door come the summer. He has been an excellent servant to Madrid since his arrival in 2009, often sacrificing himself to create chances for Ronaldo, but his two goals in 15 league appearances this summer represent a poor return.
