Football fans were all left thinking the same thing after the Union SG goalkeeper had a laser pointed at him during his side's match against Liverpool.
On Thursday night, Liverpool took on Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise at Anfield in the Europa League.
It was a relatively comfortable 2-0 win for Jurgen Klopp's men, with goals coming from Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota.
However there was an unsavoury incident during the match when Union SG's goalkeeper had a laser pointed at him by a fan in the crowd.
Television footage showed Anthony Moris covering his eyes and gesturing to the referee about the laser pen.
And, following a week of debate about VAR and potential replays after Tottenham's controversial 2-1 win over the Reds, many fans reached the same conclusion after seeing the images.
Writing on X, one person said: "Liverpool fans shining a laser Into the opposition player’s eyes If it leads to a mistake, the game must be replayed."
Another said: "Get the game replayed. Liverpool fans using lasers to win."
A third wrote: "Liverpool fan shining a laser at the face of the USG keeper. I expect Klopp will insist on a replay since fairness and sport integrity are so important to him..."
And someone else joked: "This is unprecedented and, I'm sorry, the only fair outcome is a replay."
Liverpool lost 2-1 at Tottenham in a game marred by controversy after Luis Diaz’s first-half strike was flagged off-side by the linesman.
Despite replays showing the Liverpool forward was onside, the video assistant referee (VAR) told referee Simon Hooper that the check was complete and no change should be made to the on-field decision.
After the game, Liverpool released a statement in which they said “sporting integrity had been undermined” and that the club would “explore the range of options available, given the clear need for escalation and resolution.”
Then, on Tuesday evening, the PGMOL – the body responsible for officiating in English football – released the VAR audio of the decision-making process for Diaz’s wrongly disallowed goal and conversation between the officials involved.
Speaking ahead of the game against Union SG, Klopp said he felt a replay was “the only outcome” despite accepting that it was a mistake in the aftermath of the defeat.
If the decision to replay the game was taken it would be the first time a game has has such a scenario in response to VAR.
Liverpool are next in action on Sunday, when they will travel to the south coast to face Brighton & Hove Albion.
