Diego Simeone is the most expensive manager per win, according to study

Simeone is paid the big bucks for every win as Atletico boss

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is the highest paid manager per win across the whole of Europe last season, a study has discovered.

Research conducted by SportingPedia has discovered that Simeone was by far and away the leader, pocketing just short of €2m for each of Atleti’s 21 LaLiga wins in the 2021/22 campaign.

It may be a surprise to see Simeone at the top of the rankings given that Atleti’s finances are usually incomparable when it comes to the two other dominant forces in Spain.

Simeone also guided Los Colchoneros to third in the Spanish top flight this season in a season that was described as largely underwhelming, yet still pocketed more money per victory than any other boss across the continent.

Despite winning both LaLiga and the Champions League, Atleti’s city rivals Real Madrid paid their boss, Carlo Ancelotti, four times less in comparison.

Meanwhile the top three highest-paid managers in Ligue 1 (Mauricio Pochettino, Christophe Galtier and Jorge Sampaoli) have all either left or moved to a new club.

The full table of the 10 highest-paid managers per victory in Europe can be seen below:

Which European club has got the best value-for-money manager in Europe?

It’s hard to look beyond AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli for this award. As the lowest-paid manager per victory in Europe last season, Pioli was able to deliver a first Serie A title for the Rossoneri in 11 years.

Milan beat off fierce rivals Inter, who won the Scudetto the previous year, and performed much better than the struggling Juventus, who despite their fourth placed finish, paid Massimiliano Allegri €700,000 per win.
