Chelsea’s Kenedy sets a new bar for flashy goals in training

Unreal spin...

Tom Victor

Whenever a footballer scores a great goal in training, you’ll invariably get killjoys piping up with comments like ‘that would never happen in a real game’.

The thing is, that’s kind of the point.

There are three very good reasons why this goal from Chelsea squad player Kenedy won’t be replicated on Premier League pitches this season (four if you assume he’s unlikely to get a whole lot of game-time under Antonio Conte).

  1. There’s no goalkeeper
  2. The Brazilian – an outfield player – kicks the ball out of his hands
  3. He’s standing *behind the goal* when he does it.

That doesn’t mean it’s not a very special moment. It takes a great deal of skill to pull off something like this, as well as a knowledge of physics that few Premier League players are capable of.

We don’t get to write about Kenedy all that much. The Brazilian made just four Premier League starts last season, scoring once, and seems unlikely to feature a great deal more under new boss Conte.

That means we’re seizing the opportunity to use our favourite photo of him, even though it has absolutely no relevance to the story.

You never know, we might not ever get another chance.
