KJT starts her Olympic campaign
Team GB ended day 12 on 49 medals, still fifth in the medal table after Matthew Hudson-Smith picked up silver in the 400m and there were more medals in the velodrome as Team GB have medalled in every event so far in the track cycling.
There were athletes in action from as early as 6.30am with Leah Crisp finishing 20th in the women’s 10km marathon swim.
At 9.05am Katarina Johnson-Thompson will begin her Olympic campaign as the first event of the heptathlon gets underway, the 100m hurdles which is followed by the high jump at 10am. The shot put and 200m will take place in the evening session starting at 6.35pm.
Johnson-Thompson is not the only Brit in the event with Jade O’Dowda making her Olympic debut in the event.
As the triathlon begins, Grace Reid and Yasmin Harper will look to qualify for the 3m springboard diving final as the semi-final starts at 9am.
Attention will then turn to the men’s final at 3pm where Jack Laugher who qualified in 3rd and Jordan Houlden who qualified in 5th going for gold.
Both women’s and men’s 100m relay semi-finals get underway this morning in the athletics and Britain are medal contenders should they safely get the baton round today. The women get underway at 10.10am with the men following at 10.35am.
Yesterday there was heartbreak on the waters of Marseille as Micky Beckett dropped out of the medals in the final race.
However, Team GB still have medal hopes in the sailing as John Gimson and Anna Burnet sit in bronze medal position heading into the medal race in the mixed multihull sailing which gets underway at 11.18am (wind dependent).
At 12.03pm Eleanor Aldridge who is already guaranteed a place in the final will be back in action in the women’s kite semi-final and final.
Back on dry land, the Taekwondo is underway with Bradley Sinden’s first fight in the -68kg category scheduled for 10am. He’ll be hoping to make the final which takes place at 8.19pm.
One of Great Britain’s most successful Taekwondo athletes, Jade Jones will also be inaction today in the women’s -57kg with her first fight scheduled at 11am and the final at 8.37pm.
There are plenty more opportunities for GB medals in the velodrome. Our biggest hope today is 21-year-old Emma Finucane who has already won one gold medal so far this Olympics.
She is in action in the keirin quarter-final at 4.18pm with the semi-final scheduled for 5.15pm and the final at 6pm. Katy Marchant has also qualified for the quarter-final.
At 5pm the men’s sprint quarter-finals get underway and thanks to two fantastic photo finishes, Jack Carlin and Hamish Turnbull will be competing.
The Omnium, cycling’s gruelling multi-event with Ethan Hayter will begin with the scratch race at 4pm, the tempo race is at 4.38pm, the elimination takes place at 5.25pm with the points race to finish at 6.27pm.
Hayter is the current world champion but he slipped off his saddle in the gold medal race in the team pursuit yesterday due to exhaustion, forcing his team to settle for silver so today’s event may not go in the 25-year-old’s favour.
Back at the athletics, the women’s 1500m semi-finals featuring Britain’s Laura Muir and Georgia Bell takes place tonight at 6.35pm.
It’s an action packed day with plenty of opportunities for the British.
