Restaurant charges extra to adults who are ‘unable to parent’

JOE

What would you do if a restaurant said they would charge extra for “bad parenting”?

Sometimes children do get a bit noisy and restless when you go out for a family meal, but it doesn’t mean that their parents should be penalised for it.

At least that’s what some people were saying after a restaurant in Georgia, America advertised that they would charge more for “adults unable to parent“.

Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, wrote at the top of their menu, “Adult surcharge: For adults unable to parent $$$” – although they don’t disclose what amount customers were expected to pay.

The menu then made its way to Reddit where people questioned why the establishment deemed it okay to do such a thing.

“Unable to parent…and what is their definition of that? It makes me feel bad for parents who struggle because their kid has autism or ADHD or whatever causes them not be a perfect angel or a robot,” one person commented.

“Just say ‘no kids’…? Kids can be annoying, but they’re unpredictable because they’re KIDS,” wrote another.

A third person added: “Having unruly children running around a restaurant is dangerous and the parents who allow this to happen should be reprimanded, but those are so few and far between.

“Most parents who enjoy eating at nice places have already taught their children how to eat at a table and how to behave.”

Though this may have seemed like an empty threat one Tripadvisor commenter confirmed it was a real charge.

The review claimed: “The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 to my bill because of my children’s behaviour.

“My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill. Disappointed by the experience.”

Yet this wasn’t the only odd extra charge this restaurant has as they also have a $3 surcharge for sharing meals.
